St. Mark 25th Anniversary Christmas Pageant News:
- The Pageant will be presented in the church at 7:00 PM
on Friday December 3, 2010. This event will be an
"interactive" experience for the audience. The most
ambitious scene will be "The Sermon on the Mount" which
needs 200 persons of all ages to leave their pews, walk
back to the ambulatory (walkways inside the church) and
enter the scene down the aisles in twos and threes. The
Sermon on the Mount involves the Beatitudes, the
Multiplication of the Loaves and Fishes, the Lord's
Prayer and ... the collection of 12 baskets of leftover
"remnants" from the 5 loaves and 2 fishes! Another large
scene involves Jesus healing the sick and raising
Lazarus; and the last large scene will be His entrance
into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, both needing participants
from the audience. If you're interested in joining the
choir for this event, rehearsals will begin Wednesday
July 14th at 7:00 PM and continue every Wednesday
through Labor Day. Contact Mary Lou Corbiere email at
mlc88keys@comcast.net.
LifeLine Screening will be coming to St. Mark
again on Thursday, July 22nd from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM.
They perform 4 painless ultrasound screenings (carotid
artery, heart rhythm, abdominal aortic aneurysm, and
peripheral arterial disease) to detect possible stroke
signs as well as osteoporosis screening. Blood testes
are also available (lipid panel, glucose and liver
enzyme). Pre-registration is required by calling
1-800-324-1851.

schedule the Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist.
We are most grateful to Kathy Healey who has undertaken
this important role for the past several years. Thank
you Kathy. The Church has some very specific
guidelines for the choosing of Eucharistic Ministers in
parishes. It requires an interview with the Pastor,
attendance at a training day, and commissioning.
In the near future we would like to have more active
E.M’s. If you are interested please contact Father Whyte.

FOR WOMEN WHO HAVE HAD ABORTIONS
-
I would now like to say a special word to women who have had an abortion. The
Church is aware of the many factors which may have influenced your decision, and
she
does not doubt that in many cases it was a painful and even shattering decision.
The
wound in your heart may not yet have healed. Certainly what happened was and
remains terribly wrong. But do not give in to discouragement and do not lose
hope.
Try rather to understand what happened and face it honestly. If you have not
already
done so, give yourselves over with humility and trust to repentance. The Father
of
mercies is ready to give you His forgiveness and His peace in the Sacrament of
Reconciliation. You will come to understand that nothing is definitively lost
and you
will also be able to ask forgiveness from your child, who is now living in the
Lord. With the friendly and
expert help and advice of other people, and as a result of your own painful
experience, you can be among the
most eloquent defenders of everyone’s right to life. Through your commitment to
life, whether by accepting the
birth of other children or by welcoming and caring for those most in need of
someone to be close to then, you
will become promoters of a new way of looking at human life. The Gospel of Life
by John Paul II.
If you are a man or woman who is suffering because
of a past abortion, hope and healing are waiting with Project Rachel at 1-877-908-1212. All calls are
confidential. If you are pregnant and need help, please call the Respect Life Office at 954-963-2229.
The Beatitudes offer a challenging key to the
Christian life summarized by Zephaniah: “Seek justice, seek humility.” Jesus’ values differ greatly from those
of our contemporary culture where greed, prestige, power, security, wealth, and status are often assumed to
be signs of success and happiness. The gospel message is clearly “counter-cultural.” The beatitudes remind us of Catholic Social
Teaching:
Our preferential option for the poor
Our special concern for those who suffer
Our hunger for justice in the world and in its
institutions and structures
Our concern for mercy and justice in our criminal
justice system
Our profound respect for life in all its forms
Our care for the earth as a gift from God to be
shard by all
Our passion for non-violence and peace
Our willingness to face opposition and live
counter-culturally.
Which of the beatitudes do you find most
challenging? How does it challenge your way of living? For more information about income inequality visit

A New Vision
The Gospel story leads us to reflect on issues like justice for workers, the
right of workers to organize, extreme inequality of pay between upper management
and production workers, sweatshops, importance of capital vs. labor, huge
inequality in economic resources between nations, etc. God’s perspective differs
from our
consumer culture, materialism, or individualism.
The parable helps us to see God’s values in a new way. God’s vision is
excessively generous. The reign of God is about people who are in love with this
generous, forgiving God and want to share that generosity with everyone
especially the poor. The reign of God is about people, like Paul who are not in
the “religion thing” for a bigger reward, but rather just want to share the
vision of Jesus Christ. The reign of God is about proclaiming this vision in our
actions, in our way of living and in the structures of our society. The reign of
God calls us to imitate the irrational generosity of God.
