Living our Faith
Living our Faith is a
organization, run by the Student Council of
Saint Mark, whose purpose is to help those that
are less fortunate than us by assisting
charitable organizations in our own community
and around the world. More importantly, LOF was
conceived as a way to teach our children to
recognize that God calls each of us to help our
neighbors in need. All LOF programs depend on
the generosity of out school family. Whether it
be your time, talent or treasure, we thank you
for your support. If you want to be a part
of LOF please contact our facilitator, Mrs.
Covone.
Religious
Education
While the school community
includes children of diverse ethnic and
religious backgrounds, St. Marks is first and
foremost a Roman Catholic School.
We go beyond teaching our
students basic religious education. We know that
the morals and values that will guide a child
through life do not develop in a vacuum. Here at
SMCS, our children learn how they can apply
their religious training to everyday life.
From pre-kindergarten to eighth
grade, the teaching of religion and moral values
is at the foundation of our students’
educational experience.
School Mass and Prayer
Weekly school Mass, prayer and other special liturgical
events are part of the total religion program of the school.
Mass will be celebrated on Thursday mornings at 9:00 AM for the
students of Saint Mark Catholic School. Holy Days of Obligation
will be celebrated at 10:00 AM. Students remain
with their classes during these times under the supervision of
the teacher.
All our families are welcome and encouraged to celebrate Mass
with us. Family and children Mass envelopes may be turned
into the school on Monday if you happen to forget them with you
on Sunday. The children of Saint Mark Catholic School are
always welcome to join the church choir when attending Mass on
Saturday or Sunday.
Reconciliation
Children are encouraged to receive this sacrament regularly.
Students in grade 3 through 6 usually have two scheduled
opportunities for Reconciliation throughout the year.
Liturgy
Grades K through 8 attend Mass every other week. Students will also
participate in other liturgical and devotional prayer
experiences appropriate in the various sessions of the Church
calendar. |
